MACRA is the government's new performance related reimbursement system that hopes to reward physicians who provide better care services, not simply satisfactory services and incorporates into their practices quality measures that will lead to improved payment models. The performance year begins in 2017, and physicians must participate or lose revenue in the coming years.
MACRA will streamline Medical Quality reporting programs such as PQRS, VM, and MU into a new program called Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) with payments based on quality of care and cost savings.
