Ellen Garver - BS, BA, CPC


Ellen Garver, BS, BA, CPC, regularly covers medical coding and compliance for pathology and laboratory as well as general surgery. The 15-year Coding Institute veteran has served as the editor of Pathology/Lab Coding Alert since its inception in 1999 and is also the current editor of General Surgery Coding Alert.

Ellen shares her pathology and laboratory coding know-how by presenting at various Coding Institute webinars and live conferences. She also wrote the Coding Institute’s Pathology/Lab Coder’s Survival Guide and contributed to projects such as SuperCoder Illustrated and CPC® Training Camp course materials. For the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Ellen wrote the initial study guide for the Certified Anesthesia and Pain Management Coder (CANPC) examination, and contributed to study guides for the Certified Cardiology Coder (CCC) and Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Coder (CPRC) credential exams.

Ellen has a bachelor of science in agronomy and a bachelor of arts in philosophy from the University of Tennessee. She is a Certified Professional Coder® (CPC®) through the AAPC.
