Dr. Benjamin Miller currently co-leads the Dairy and Food Inspection Division at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.  He directly manages the Food and Response Programs which are responsible for retail and manufactured food inspections throughout the state of Minnesota as well as the Department’s Rapid Response Team. He and his staff have played a central role in investigating several prominent large-scale multi-state outbreaks, including the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak associated with peanut butter. Currently, Dr. Miller serves as the North Central Association of Food and Drug Officials board representative to the FDA’s Manufactured Foods Regulatory Program Alliance. Dr. Miller also co-teaches a course on food safety, regulation and policy at the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health Summer Institute.   

 

Dr. Miller’s current areas of professional interest lie in examining how improvements in food product tracing and epidemiologic methods may improve investigation response times during foodborne outbreaks.  He also has an interest in how Quality Management Systems can drive continuous improvement efforts within food regulatory programs.
