Insights on the 2018 Radiology Coding Updates from an Expert!

Make certain your claims are paid in this year, by ensuring you are ready for the CPT® 2018 coding changes for diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. 2018 brings a number of CPT® code changes to diagnostic and interventional radiology. From new chest and abdominal X-ray codes, to new and deleted codes for endovascular repair, this year has many changes in store.

New codes have been added for percutaneous access, large sheath and for endograft fixation device. Open arterial exposure codes have been revised and new codes added. Iliac aneurysm repair codes have been revised and a number of codes have been deleted. There are also a number of NCCI policy manual changes for both diagnostic and interventional radiology.     • Endovascular repair infrarenal aorta: Complete overhaul of EVAR coding, with deletion of many component codes to be replaced with more comprehensive CPT® codes
    • Endovenous ablation of incompetent veins
      • New codes for the reporting of endovenous ablation therapy of incompetent veins using a chemical adhesive.
      • New codes to be created for reporting the injection of a non-compounded foam sclerosant for treatment of incompetent veins
    • Bone marrow diagnostic procedures: A new code will be created to describe a diagnostic bone marrow procedure that bundles biopsy and aspiration into one code
