Keeping up-to-date with the latest Podiatry Procedures Coding

Podiatrist have a very specialized practice performing procedures only involving the foot and ankle. There are also strict guidelines for the medical necessity of certain procedures related to the foot. However, there is little out there for information on how to code and report services for podiatry. With such a narrow window of what they can and cannot do, podiatrists and their staff have to know and understand when insurance reimbursement may be a problem based on the patient’s diagnosis and/or condition.

This audio session by Lynn Anderanin, CPC, CPPM, CPC-I, COSC, will review the procedures relative to a podiatrist and what the documentation should be to substantiate these procedures. It will review the services the podiatrist routinely performs, and if they can expect reimbursement from the insurance company.

This session will also provide clear guidance on when procedures will be considered medically necessary and when the patient will be responsible if the medical necessity is not met. Additionally, you will also receive information on ABN forms and other tools that can be used when the patient might be responsible for services.

Session Highlights

  • Medical necessity for services performed on toe nails and when they are considered for payment by insurance carriers.
  • Wound care and what is to be expected in coding and reimbursement to treat ulcers of the foot.
