Being able to roll with annual medical coding & billing changes can make the difference between payment and denial—especially for Podiatry offices which much support foot/ankle procedures by very specific diagnoses. Insurance carriers, including Medicare, will deny or delay claims—for even the cutting of corns or calluses—if they feel the procedures are either not “medically necessary” due to co-morbidities or not supported by very specific diagnoses. So how do you optimize your reimbursement?
Join industry veteran Lynn M. Anderanin for comprehensive coverage of the 2019 ICD-10-CM to fine-tune your use of both changed codes as well as those most commonly used by podiatrists and foot/ankle specialists. It’s time to start painting a fuller picture of patient health to satisfy payers.
What’s new: The 2019 revisions to ICD-10-CM for Podiatry address the code for “other specified” congenital foot deformities, as well as the S99.1 code set for “unspecified” physeal fractures and Salter-Harris Type III physeal fractures. Plus, CMS has revised local coverage determinations (LCD) for foot care.
In this session, Anderanin will explain what the 2019 changes mean for your coding and billing practices—as well as how to properly use ICD-10-CM codes for nail debridement for Medicare and commercial insurance. She’ll describe United Healthcare’s policy on using modifiers for toe procedures. And she’ll teach you to properly report non-pressure ulcers for diabetics.
The ICD-10-CM updates are effective on October 1, 2018, and although Podiatry will see just 17 revisions this year, you will need to adjust your claims procedures to satisfy them—as well as ensure you’re using even “old hat” ICD-10 codes as effectively as possible to create reimbursable claims every time. After attending this audio conference, you will be well prepared to minimize your risk of payment delays or denials and start off a new year of coding on the right foot.
