A Walk Through Grey Zone  In Pediatric Coding

Like a black hole in space, sometimes the grey zone can pull us in and take us to places we didn't know, or want to be in. The complex nature of Pediatric care can lead to confusing billing scenarios. Rules that are printed are not always succinct in their instructions leading to questionable interpretations and possible errors. Identify your comfort zone in this world of grey with compliant complete documentation.
AudioEducator is offering a 60-minute Live Audio Conference on the topic “The Grey Zone of Pediatric Coding". The conference will be presented by coding veteran & expert speaker Jen Godreau, CPC, CPMA, CPEDC, who brings over 10 years of medical experience with an emphasis on pediatric coding and auditing.
In this power packed event, Jen will walk you through Grey Zone issues - addressing medical necessity and medical decision making in the note, conflicting rules - why and how do they exist and what can you do to choose your shade of grey, researching grey areas - how to do the research and what to believe, how to make good decisions and succeed with them?

There will be lots of time for your tough grey area questions which includes supervision of tests: Where can you find good information on who can provide supervision, and who can bill for the test? Should you count a well baby check in which the baby isn’t latching on well, feeding well, or has jaundice a well baby visit?

Here's a look at what is covered:

  • Office services, when is it appropriate to use modifier 25. Everyone uses it how can this be a grey area?
  • Understand Edits, CCI Allowed Modifiers.
  • Important documentation guidelines
  • Modifier 59: How to document the grey out of your note?
  • Counseling and coordinating care - seems straight forward but there is grey in some areas.
  • Use of Non-physician practitioners - too many grey areas to count but each must have compliant documentation.
  • Critical care guidelines are fairly extensive but do not cover all situations leaving some grey areas in this code set’s use.
  • Sports physicals: There’s no specific CPT code so advice runs the gamut. What should you do?
  • Medical necessity a nebulous term – How can you define it better in the documentation.
  • CPT® 2013-Physician Wording Change- Almost all codes, guidelines, and instructions have been revised to consistently specify provider/professional type many codes with “physician” changed to include “qualified healthcare professional”
  • Learn about Pediatric Codes Affected

Who should attend? Pediatricians, pediatric managers, pediatric compliance directors, pediatric nurse practitioners, pediatric physician assistants, pediatric nurses, pediatric coders
