What are “LOINC” codes, how are they used, why do we need them, and how do you get started?

With the creation of Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) comes a multitude of questions. What are “LOINC” codes, how are they used, why do we need them and how do you get started?

This session with expert speaker Peggy Slagle, CPC, will describe the functions of LOINC as well as formatting your systems to accommodate LOINC. You will understand the meaning, the use and why it is important to apply these codes in your day to day laboratory testing environment, and advantages resulting from adopting them.

You will understand the basic functions of LOINC and how they are applied in separate settings. If you currently use LOINC codes, Peggy will provide additional information that will assist you in improving communication via these codes. If you do not currently use LOINC codes, you will be provided with resources to move forward with establishing these codes within your laboratory system.
