Cloning Of Medical Records Continues To Cause Compliance Issues – See What The OIG States

The much awaited 2014 OIG Work Plan has finally been released. Once again they are checking into your EM services and levels you are reporting as well as the correct usage of Modifier-25.  There is also a section on Anesthesia services and who is really performing them. Chiropractor services again hit the list with concerns of what is really covered by CMS. One of the big ones is the appropriate medical necessity for diagnostic imaging and can you really support those x-rays you are taking. CMS is also concerned about balance billing of Medicare beneficiaries as well as not complaining with assignment rules. If you do physical therapy services, you will want to listen to this audio as once again CMS is checking for compliance and medical necessity. These and all other issues found in the OIG 2014 Work Plan relating to physician services will be discussed.

Black and white information will be provided to attendees with this session by Margie Scalley Vaught, so that they can clearly show their providers the issues that CMS will be focusing on regarding fraud and abuse.  It is important for all facilities/offices/providers be aware of those areas of concern for the Federal Government as they will be performing audits on medical records and you will need to be able to support the coding and reimbursement.

Session highlights:

  • Find out how to get your EM services documented to support the given level based on concerns from the Federal Government
  • Diagnostic testing is a part of many offices/facility and you need to be able to support the reason why you are ordering them (along with examples)
  • With all the new issues of physical therapy you will need to know the areas that the OIG has identified as not being in compliance
  • Cloning of medical records continues to cause compliance issues – see what the OIG states
  • The actual provider of services being billed must be clearly documented and supported as well as licensed and credentialed to perform those services, do you have this information in your compliance manuals?

Who should attend: Medical coders, billers, office managers, practice manager and orthopedic surgeons.
