Learn the Correct Way to Report 7th Character & Ensure Accurate ICD-10 Ortho Coding in 2016

We are into 2016 and now is the perfect time to check if you are using ICD-10 codes appropriately, especially when it comes to those 7th characters. The AHA ICD-10 Coding Clinic has been releasing more information on the correct way to report the 7th characters as they relate to active, subsequent treatment, malunion/nonunion/delayed healing and late effects.

In this session, expert speaker Margie Vaught, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, CCS-P, PCE, MCS-P, ACS-EM, ACS-OR, will go over these situations with examples to help support correct reporting and accurate ICD-10 coding. You will receive the information from the official source of the ICD-10 coding guidelines, as well as the Coding Clinic. This will help you develop tools and tips for your providers and coders in selecting the correct ICD-10 codes.

Session Highlights:

  • Understand the difference between active vs. subsequent treatment and how it does not relate to being a new physician or not.
  • Visualize the process of how the 7th character changes during the patient’s course of treatment.
  • Guidance on correct ICD-10 coding for acute rotator cuff tear – You may be surprised that you are using the wrong one!
  • Gain a better understanding regarding the 7th character S and in what setting would it be used.
  • See how a patient’s given situation will dictate what ICD-10 code and 7th character would apply for those injuries/fractures/trauma situations.
  • Payer policies and ICD-10 issues.

Margie will also discuss:
