Master the Documentation Requirements for Dispensing Lower Extremity DME

Your orthopedic practice can lose a lot of money if you do not have a sound process for dispensing Durable Medical Equipment (DME) to patients. And even more so when it comes to DME for the lower extremity, which includes braces of the leg, knee, ankle, and foot. Because there are specific guidelines, especially from Medicare, as to what conditions qualify – and it is crucial that your medical record documentation meets these requirements.

Let orthopedic coding specialist Lynn Anderanin show you how to manage lower extremity DME efficiently, compliantly, and profitably in this audio conference. Anderanin will bring you up to speed with Medicare’s Local Coverage Determination (LCD), and show you how to ensure that your medical record documentation meets all requirements. You will receive useful “checklists” to ensure you don’t miss anything, and learn how to choose the correct codes using pricing, data and analysis, and coding information assigned by Medicare. Anderanin will review specific examples of patient conditions that need lower extremity DME, teach you when Medicare will/will not reimburse for a DME, and show you how to work with patients so that they know whether their insurance company will reimburse for a DME due to medical necessity, or they will have to pay themselves.

You will also learn how to correctly choose the correct HCPCS code for dispensing a lower extremity DME, and which modifiers should be used to explain the circumstances for reporting a DME. Plus, you’ll learn whom to hold responsible for payment, based on insurance guidelines and policies.

After attending this session, you’ll be confident in your ability to correctly code for a lower extremity DME. Plus, you’ll know how to avoid reimbursement denials, and manage your practice more efficiently, compliantly, and profitably.

You will learn what it takes to have an efficient and profitable DME program.
