Ensuring Appropriate ICD-10 Orthopedic Coding and Correct Reporting of the 7th Character

October is here and as you brace for the end of the Medicare grace period, you may be wondering which new and revised codes will have the greatest impact on your orthopedic practice, and what are the latest updates on the official coding guidelines. Let an expert help you dispel the confusion for your practice.

During this 60-minute informative session, Orthopedic coding expert Margie Scalley Vaught will go over the revised, deleted and new codes that will affect the orthopedic offices as it pertains to ICD-10 coding. She will also make sure that you are using ICD-10 appropriately, especially when it comes to those 7th characters. The AHA ICD-10 Coding Clinic has been releasing more information on the correct way to report the 7th characters as they relate to active, subsequent treatment, malunion/nonunion/delayed healing and late effects.

Margie will go over these situations with examples to help support correct reporting. You will receive the information from the official source of the ICD-10 coding guidelines as well as the Coding Clinics. This will help you develop tools and tips for your providers and coders in selecting the correct ICD-10 codes.

Session Highlights:

  • Receive information and guidance regarding the 900+ changes in the ICD-10 codes for Orthopedic issues
  • Get the ability to visualize the process of how that 7th character changes during the patient’s course of treatment
