Tip: Pay Attention to ‘Upper’ Versus ‘Lower’ Eyelid

Time to adjust your coding specs: On October 1, 2018, you will have a whole new set of additional and revised ICD-10 eyecare codes to focus in on. And if you’re not clear on how to use them—pronto—even a small mistake can lead to significant denials and revenue losses for your practice.

Ophthalmology is one of the top three specialties hit hardest by the 2019 ICD-10-CM code changes. Join healthcare coding expert Jeffrey Restuccio to make sense of 104 added and revised codes for everything from rosacea conjunctivitis (H10.8) and brow ptosis (H57.8) to malignant melanoma (C43.1) and Merkel cell carcinoma (C4A.1). He will deliver real-world claims examples, step-by-step code analysis, definitions and explanations not found in the ICD-10 manual—as well as additional resources to support your daily work.

What’s new: Added codes include those for basal cell carcinoma (C44.11), blepharitis (H01.0), melanocytic nevi (D22.1) and paralytic ectropion (H02.1)—and all distinguish between the upper and lower eyelid. The revised codes for epiphora (H04.2) remove the reference to “lacrimal gland.”

In addition to code changes, Restuccio will address the concept of “disease specificity” in relation to the October 1 updated guidelines concerning carrier reimbursement for keratoconus, pterygiums, amblyopia, glaucoma, and cataracts. Plus, you’ll learn the hierarchy of ICD-10 coding activities, what AHA ICD-10 coding guidelines recommend, and how to handle appeals due to incorrect ICD-10 codes

Regardless of your level of coding expertise, this audio conference will help you prepare for the coming changes and maximize reimbursement in 2019. Correct coding takes training, practice, and periodic audits and monitoring. Start here!
