Ensure Full and Correct Reimbursement with Accurate Coding for Breast Procedures

Probably one of the biggest changes in general surgery coding is in the area of breast procedures. Some new codes have been created while some have been deleted, as well as new guidelines have been included in many of the new codes. As usual, these changes have resulted in coding complexities.

Join this session by expert speaker Jan Rasmussen to learn how to earn full and correct reimbursement in these financially challenging times. Eliminate audit risk while getting the best reimbursement possible. Learn the ins and outs of coding partial and full mastectomies, oncoplastic reconstruction and sentinel node biopsy. Identify when you can code a deep sentinel node biopsy versus a simple biopsy.

The session will also help you get a few tips on determining how to code biopsies and ancillary services performed at the same session for the best reimbursement. You will learn the terminology to look for in the operative notes to determine what specific type of mastectomy was performed.  You will be able to discern whether it a full mastectomy, skin sparing or nipple sparing mastectomy.

Additionally, you’ll get an opportunity to review CCI coding issues related to breast procedures.

Session Highlights:

  • Insights on Breast Biopsy Procedures
  • Learn whether you can bill for both a biopsy and breast removal at the same operative session
  • How can you bill separately for the spacers in mammosite placement, as the surgeon is free to place a catheter after doing biopsy or lumpectomy?
