Review and Ensure Your Practice Management and EHR System Readiness For ICD-10 To Avoid Chaos

ICD-10 could possibly be one of the biggest changes in HealthCare in the last 20-30 years and many of us have not gone through a change this large. With less than 6 months before implementation, offices should be in the last leg of preparation for ICD-10. The best practice is to be ready for the worst and hope for the best. The more you do in advance and plan on, the smoother the transition will be. You also have to think about the period of time in which both sets of codes will be used, and the affects this will have on revenue at the most critical time of the year for many practices.

With the delays that have occurred in the implementation of ICD-10, many offices have been starting and stopping implementation. In this session, expert speaker Lynn Anderanin, CPC, CPC-I, COSC, will discuss where offices should be now in the implementation of ICD-10, which occurs on October 1, 2015, and what may still need to be done for implementation. Lynn will give suggestions in creating a timeline from now until “D-day” to assist in a successful implementation, and help you focus on what can be done now to prevent chaos for the office.

Additionally, this 60-minute session will look at when is the right time to prepare physicians and staff, start performing dual coding, test with vendors and carriers, and even prepare for after the "go live" date and be prepared for the potential of claims denials and organize staffing. A checklist will be shared to give attendees a head start on what still needs to be done in preparation of October 1.

Areas covered in the session:

  • Get a breakdown of the education needed for each member in the office. What information should be shared, and the time involved for those that deal directly with diagnosis coding vs. others that have little or no involvement.
  • Helpful hints to ensure that your practice management and EHR systems are going to be ready for the implementation on time.
  • How to start coding ICD-10 today and utilize the information found to create training for providers and staff?  And using real documentation from your providers to show differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10.
  • How to prepare: Get insights on Impact analysis, Education, Costs, Preparedness, Revenue, etc.
  • Why you need to concentrate on A/R status?
  • Review of office processes that may be affected by the changes and creating revised policies for a smooth transition.
  • Ideas to manage staffing and create plans for handling coding denials that may occur due to the new coding.
  • Few ICD-10 facts quick references to consider while preparing for the transition.
