Product Description

Learn From An E/M Auditor How To Accurately And Compliantly Choose Your Level Of Service, Every Time.

E/M coding has been, and will continue to be, a hot area for payer scrutiny. In fact, a recent OIG study found that providers increased their billing of higher-level E/M codes across all categories (inpatient, outpatient, etc.) between 2001 and 2010. In fact, the OIG sent CMS a list of 1,700 providers who were identified as “consistently billing higher-level E/M codes in 2010.” That means there is a chance that your payer will review any and all E/M claims your practice is submitting. So what are the auditors looking for?

In this 60-minute session, you’ll not only learn the most common E/M coding pitfalls, but also how to avoid them. Increase your office visit claims, inpatient encounter billing and more with the tips you’ll learn in this audio conference. The presenter, Leesa A. Israel, BA, CPC, CUC, CMBS, an E/M auditor and provider educator, will give you the tips, tricks, and tools to ensure you choose the correct level of service. You’ll see the auditing forms and tools Leesa uses when she performs an E/M audit, and learn how to use them in your own coding.

Here's a look at what's covered:

  • Get to know the differences between the 1995 and 1997 E/M guidelines, and which one is most beneficial for your providers
  • Learn when you can — and can’t — count a patient’s previously documented past medical, family, and social history (PMFSH) toward the current encounter’s history level.
  • Unlock the keys to avoiding the established patient 2 of 3 “loophole” that payers will ding you for.
  • Medical decision making is the hardest piece of the puzzle to fit into place —find out how to determine the difference between straightforward, low, moderate, and high.-    One key factor overrides all history, exam, and medical decision making when choosing a level. Find out what that key factor is.
  • Discover the three essential documentation criteria you must have before you can bill on time alone.
