The Ins And Outs of Value Based Purchasing (VBP) and Its Implications for Skilled Nursing Facilities

The FY2018 SNF PPS final rule mentions value based purchasing (VBP) and its implications for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) in the 2019. It builds on CMS’s commitment to shifting Medicare payments from volume to value. Beginning October 1, 2018 all Medicare rates will be cut by 2%, this money will go back to the value based incentive payment (VBIP) pool. SNFs must earn back the dollars cut under the 2% based on the SNF all-cause readmission measure (SNFRM).

Join this informative session with expert speaker Marilyn Mines, RN, BC, RAC-CT, where you will learn the ins and outs of the VBP and how it will change every year. Marilyn will review the importance of value based purchasing and the mechanism of it. She will define the various terms that will be used to determine withholds for FY 2019 for skilled nursing facilities.

With this session, you will be able to explain the details of VBP and how quality of care will be an incentive rather than quantity of care. You will learn the composition of scores and how to ensure their accuracy before they are reported to the public.
