Become a Fall “Crime Scene Investigator” and Inspire Your Team to Meet the Challenges of Fall Reduction

Nursing home residents fall often. Unfortunately, around 1,800 older adults living under nursing home care die every year, unable to sustain fall-related injuries (10% to 20% of those falls cause serious injuries; 2% to 6% cause fractures). Those who are able to do so, continue with permanent injuries that lead to disability and reduced life quality. Preventing falls in the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) environment presents multiple challenges.

Some estimates indicate that by 2020, the annual direct and indirect fall injury costs are expected to reach $54.9 billion. In order to prevent falls, nursing homes have to combine medical treatment, environmental changes and rehabilitation. Fall prevention interventions need to be implemented at staff, patient and organizational levels. Generally, using multidisciplinary teams and addressing multiple factors are recognized as signs of effective interventions.

Join this session by expert speaker Elisa Bovee, MS, OTR/L, to learn how you can become a fall “crime scene investigator,” and know ways of inspiring your interdisciplinary team so that they can effectively meet the challenges of fall reduction. This webinar will help you improve patient care and survey outcomes. The session will also enable healthcare providers to improve quality of care in the SNF environment through prevention of resident falls.

Additionally, you will be able to detail the benefit of root cause analysis; discuss the process of fall investigation; verbalize the interdisciplinary involvement benefit; and follow-up for fall events. Plus, learn about the top five ways you can prevent falls from occurring in your SNF.
