Understanding the CMS Reform of Requirements for Long Term Care Facilities Final Rule

CMS issued the Reform of Requirements for Long Term Care (LTC) facilities: Final Rule on Sept. 28, 2016. The implementation deadline for Phase I was November 28, 2016. The reform is a 712-page document. The majority explains CMS’s response to public comments, rationale for decisions, implementation timeframes, predicted costs, in addition to the 104 pages of new regulations. Your understanding of the new CMS regulations is crucial. You are stronger when you are grounded in what federal regulations require. Consider them a foundation for your work. There are many myths out there, it is easy in business to blame the state, “The state says…” Know the regulations yourself, especially the new ones.

Join this session by expert speaker Carmen Bowman and learn the new requirements (last regulation changes were in 1991) – what’s new and what remains, as well as some culture change wins. In this session, Carmen will brainstorm ways to comply that don’t cost a lot of money; many culture change practices cost nothing. This session will provide a quick review of all of the regulations which you may not have had time to study yourself. After attending this session, you will know what regulations pertain to your work. You will not be dependent upon others to tell you what they are, especially since sometimes people who you ask don’t really know. This session will give you the confidence to feel stronger in your daily work.
