Neglecting Compliance Concerns like Accounts Receivable, Order Authentication, Documentation Can Be Costlier than Coding Non Compliance

Achieving compliance in the medical practice is much more than performing an annual coding compliance review. There are many other facets involved in the compliance for the practice. Non-compliance in these areas can result in fines, penalties, sometimes similar to those imposed for coding non-compliance. They are all equally important to the practice and should be documented and reviewed periodically.

In addition to coding the practice should address compliance concerns, such as Accounts Receivable/Billing, Order Authentication, Medical Necessity, Signature Requirements/Documentation, HIPAA and OSHA. They all represent the areas of compliance concerns with financial penalties if not addressed; therefore, all are equally important.

In this medical compliance conference, Marsha S. Diamond, CPC, CPC-H, CCS will shed insights on some of the top concern areas like—how to achieve compliance in Accounts Receivable/Billing, Order Authentication, Medical Necessity, Signature Requirements/Documentation, HIPAA and OSHA as well as the penalties associated with failure to comply.

Take a look at the topics covered:

  • What entities are responsible for insuring health care compliance
  • Different aspects of signature requirements such as correct methods of altering documents, signing documents,  and scribing
  • The costs to good documentation  brought about by the electronic medical record
  • What are considered legal/legible signatures/documentation
  • The true meaning of “medical necessity” and documentation requirements
  • Different aspects of Accounts Receivable/Billing compliance such as frequency/utilization parameters, MUEs (medical unlikely edits), ABNs
  • Important components of coding compliance
  • Penalties for non-compliance in each area as well as suggestions how to achieve compliance in each area

Who should attend? Practice Managers, Practice Administrators, Billing/Coding Staff, Utilization Managers, Clinical Documentation Specialists, Compliance Managers and anyone within a practice concerned with compliance.
