The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Plan is usually released each year in early October. However, this year, a Mid-Year Work Plan Update for fiscal year (FY) 2016, was released by the OIG, which summarizes new and ongoing activities and reviews that OIG plans to pursue.
OIG will continue putting their efforts in fighting fraud, abuse, and waste, under the “OIG Strategic Plan, 2014-2018.” The DOJ expects more individual accountability. For example, the DOJ, on Sept. 27, 2016, reported that Tuomey Healthcare’s former president and CEO will have to personally pay $1 million as he was involved in directing the company for entering into suspect physician arrangements, which led to a Stark settlement of $72 million. In addition to that, he has also been excluded from participation in any federal programs for four years.
In this session by expert speaker Elin Baklid-Kunz, MBA, CHC, CPC, CPMA, CCS, she will explain what providers can do to better prepare and minimize their audit risks as scrutiny intensifies and CMS error rates remain high. Elin will touch upon hot coding issues that every physician’s office needs to know. This information will help you avoid reduced payments, compliance issues, and ensure correct coding and payment the first time, every time.
