CMS has finalized the rules for implementing Stage 3 of the EHR “meaningful use” (MU) standards and efforts to stop them are not succeeding so far. All providers will have to get in compliance with the new requirements in 2016. CMS states that Stage 3 is focused on ensuring interoperability, patient communication and monitoring of outcomes.
This means that doctors and hospitals will need to evaluate how to meet the tougher ratios for certain standards and ensure that their systems can achieve and document compliance with other requirements. For many providers, Stage 3 may not be attainable, so they need to think about seeking to be exempt from the new stage or to opt out. Also, doctors and hospitals may be confused about compliance deadlines and attestation periods as they transition from their current stage. Some may be on a 90-day or a full year attestation period, for example. This will change when Stage 3 kicks in.
This session by expert speaker Wayne J. Miller, Esq. will highlight the proposed Stage 3 standards and explain how they differ from earlier stages. Wayne will discuss with you, the timing of Stage 3 implementation, for effective planning purposes. Other options and their timeframes, including exemption and opting out, will also be discussed.
