If you are an importer of food for human or animal consumption in the United States, you may need to comply with Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) rules on the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). The FDA has published guidance documents, but there’s still a big gap in understanding the compliance requirements, particularly in the food importer community. And failure to implement the FSVP properly will not only get your product or ingredient stopped at the border, but may also lead to other adverse consequences.
Learn how to prepare for the Foreign Supplier Verification Program in this informative webinar with food safety consultant, Melissa Vaccaro. Vaccaro will walk you through the requirements of the FSVP, and what it takes to ensure that your imported food products/ingredients make it into the U.S. in a timely and compliant manner. She will define and discuss the difference between an FSVP Importer, Importer of Record, and Foreign Supplier; review the processes by which you approve your foreign supplier and perform verification activities on them; and explain the need for re-evaluating a foreign supplier at least every 3 years. Vaccaro will describe both the FSVP standard and modified requirements and to whom they respectively apply. Among other things, she will also divulge the various foods/ingredients that are subject to FSVP requirements, as well as those that are exempt.
After attending this webinar, you will know how to comply with FSMA’s FSVP regulations. You will learn the purpose of FSVP requirements for both human and animal foods imported into the United States for use in the United States. Plus, you will know the importance of early communication between importers, foreign suppliers, and others in the supply chain in meeting FSVP requirements.
