Preparing for a FSMA Inspection, Investigating/Conducting a Recall, and Assessing Your Food Safety Program

Inspections under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) will involve extensive audits of records, as well as facility observations. The use of whole genome sequencing, in trace backs from illness outbreaks, has greatly expedited the identification of food sources. The Dept. of Justice and FDA have partnered to bring criminal actions against corporate officials with the authority to prevent or correct food safety violations in a company, even without evidence that the corporate officials knew of unsafe food practices.

Join expert speaker Leslie T. Krasny in this session to know how to prepare for an inspection, investigate a potential recall situation and conduct a recall, and establish a program to determine whether company food safety procedures are being implemented.

Training Objective

  • Why preparation is important for successful inspections—best practices and issues of concern.
  • Establishing a monitoring program to detect pathogens in a facility.
  • Insights on the FDA’s recently established rapid-response team to ensure that recalls are implemented in a timely manner.
  • How strict criminal liability for responsible corporate officers may be based solely on insanitary conditions.
  • How strict criminal liability misdemeanor convictions of responsible corporate officers that result in jail are being challenged on constitutional grounds.
