Providers and support staff of the Emergency Department will be expected to be trained and ready for the ICD-10 implementation date of October 1, 2015. Unlike ICD-9, ICD-10 is more descriptive and intuitive in regards to diagnosis coding. Since it is more specific, providers and coders must know how to have detailed clinical documentation so as to support the selection of the most specific ICD-10 diagnosis code by the biller and coder.
