We will review operative/surgical notes to review necessary documentation needed to appropriately capture the CPT®, ICD-10 and HCPCS codes to report for correct payment. We will review some of the areas of the surgical note that can contribute to not properly capturing all information needed to code.
In this audio session, expert speaker Brenda Palmer-Chidester, CPC, CPC-I, CEMC, CASC, will provide tips on extracting the pertinent information as well as examples of real operative notes. She will discuss how to communicate to the physician when a note is lacking necessary information and provide examples of surgical audit tools.
This will be a hands-on coding session which will delve into extracting the information necessary for correct CPT® and ICD-10 coding of the surgical note. You will get to review the information needed to assign HCPCS codes for implants and drugs used in the ASC.
