Violence Will Never Happen In My Workplace! Believing This Fact Can Put You In Danger...
According to the FBI, 225,000 – 300,000 occurrences of violence happen in the workplace every year and less than half of the events are ever reported. Many staff do not recognize violent, disruptive behavior as a red flag and threat to safety, leaving staff unprepared to respond or prevent workplace violence.
Threatening, intimidating and disruptive behaviors undermine a culture of safety, lead to medical errors, contribute to poor patient outcomes, and result in preventable adverse outcomes.
Verbal rather than physical forms of disruptive behavior are most common with aggression, harassment, and intimidation experienced by 75% of nurses and 80% of nurses experiencing bullying during their careers.
Increase your awareness of all forms of disruptive behavior: verbal, physical and emotional. Identify current, evidence-based strategies to identify, analyze and prevent disruptive behaviors that often lead to adverse events. Enhance your awareness about the cause and consequences of disruptive behavior on staff and patient safety, staff satisfaction and a healthy workplace. Join Industry expert Dr. Dianne Ditmer, PhD, RN, CFN, CRM, CMI-III, CHS-III, SANE, DABFN, FACFEI and understand the role of the healthcare provider as a member of the multidisciplinary safety team based on newly gained knowledge to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes.
