Kathleen Arnold CCS, CCS-P, CCC - I am the Cardiology coder for the Regional Heart Center at the University of Washington Medical Center, which provides cardiology services for the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. We are a major research center as well as a transplant center. I do interventional coding for the Cardiology Catheterization Lab and the Electrophysiology Lab.
Coding is my second career and one of my great passions. When I was a little girl my dream was to become a doctor, but I got sidetracked in the seventies and wound up in business school instead. I graduated from California State University Northridge in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and worked in the insurance business. In 1999 I wandered into a coding class at Shoreline Community College in Seattle and finally, I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I love Cardiology coding for the never-ending challenges and learning opportunities and the chance to keep in touch with my inner science geek.
