CAHPS Overview: The Basics You Need to Know

Beginning in 2012 the Medicare program will penalize home health agencies that do not participate in its consumer satisfaction survey and reporting program.

The survey, Home Health Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HHCAHPS), and reporting program will be made available to home health agencies in the fourth quarter of 2010, and data from the program will be publicly reported beginning in 2011. But, unlike most other government programs, agencies must use a private vendor to administer the surveys and report their data.

The costs of programs offered by the vendors vary, but the financial implications can be significant… particularly for small agencies.
